Socket equipment
Create seeds, assemble seed spheres and fit them into the empty sockets of your equipment.
Socket equipment has slots for seed spheres. Each fitted sphere adds its own option; the item's tooltip shows which slots are empty and which options are already installed. A socket-capable item does not necessarily have every slot available.
Find socket equipment
Look for the Socket equipment label on item pages. Staff of Kundun is one example. Monsters drop socket equipment only in Raklion and its Hatchery, picked by each monster's drop level. Every kill there also has a 0.05% chance of an excellent socket item; see the Raklion guide. Socket equipment also comes from boss, event and box rewards: Selupan, the boss of the Raklion Hatchery, drops a socket weapon, shield or armour +3 to +5 on 60% of his kills. Create a seed
Visit the Seed Master and choose seed extraction. Prepare:

Extraction costs 1,000,000 zen, plus any applicable Chaos tax. The material value affects the success chance; check the combination window before confirming. On failure, the jewels are consumed and the two equipment pieces can lose up to two upgrade levels.
Assemble a seed sphere
At the Seed Master, combine one seed, one sphere, one Jewel of Chaos and one Jewel of Creation. Assembly costs 1,000,000 zen, plus any applicable Chaos tax. A higher-grade sphere strengthens the seed's effect.
Check the success chance in the combination window. A failed assembly consumes the materials.
Fit a socket option
Visit the Seed Researcher with your socket equipment, one compatible seed sphere, one Jewel of Chaos and one Jewel of Creation. Select an empty socket to install the option. Fitting costs 1,000,000 zen, plus any applicable Chaos tax.

The researcher checks the item, element and selected socket before fitting. You cannot install a sphere into an occupied or unavailable slot.
Remove an option
The Seed Researcher can clear an occupied socket for 1,000,000 zen, plus any applicable Chaos tax. The equipment and socket remain, but the removed seed sphere is destroyed. Remove an option only when you are ready to replace it.
Plan your equipment
Read each sphere's tooltip before fitting it. Choose options that suit your character and check the item's complete socket combination: some arrangements can activate an additional socket bonus.
Compare the base equipment in the item catalog, check Excellent options, and keep enough zen and materials for the combination you intend to make.
